Excellent game.  great work.

(+1)

Bought it.  Great game!  Dev:  I'm hoping that we will not have to buy again if it goes on the Oculus store-front and/or after the planned merging of Sidequest into the Oculus environment.  Can you confirm that our purchases will be carried over as the store environments change?  Also, I assume we won't get a Steam key if the VR game releases there, but what are your thoughts on this?  Cheers!

(+2)

Hi, I’d be happy to clear it up.

At this moment, purchasing Warplanes on itch.io and uploading it using the SideQuest app is the only official way to get the full version and support us. We’d like to be in as many stores as we can, but in some cases it is not up to us.

We are proceeding within industry standards. If you decide to purchase a game on itch.io or GOG – in most cases –  you aren’t getting extra keys for Steam or Epic.

We don’t know any specific details regarding merging SideQuest into Oculus environment.

We don’t know if the game will be released on Oculus Store, we sent our pitch once again, but it is not up to us. So there is no point of speculating on “what if”.

Of course, if you purchased your game on itch.io, you’ll be getting all updates on itch.io.

There is one conclusion - SideQuest and itch.io are awesome. We wouldn't have this conversation if not those two platforms. I understand, sometimes I get frustrated myself that I can’t build my library on one platform. But at the end it’s all about games, not storefronts. :)

That is fair & transparent, but It would be nice to not have to rebuy it on the oculus store ... but thanks for the transparency !

Thanks for the detailed & rapid response, Łukasz!

As long as there is a relatively easy way to have the final, full game on the headset, I find it hard disagree.  Some Devs though (e.g. Anticleric, who is producing LOW-FI, which is a $35+ game here) have promised Steam keys to people who buy on itch.  Such wonderful customer service gives their customers added convenience and future-proofing :D

(+1)

yes I own that Jigsaw 360 game, first bought it on itch.io, then when they put it on the oculus store I received a free key via the itch download page

Will there be a SteamVR version too? Since a non vr version already excists on steam? :) Nevertheless bought it anyway since I wanted to play it in VR and support the developer.

(1 edit) (+1)

I hope it shows up on steamvr too and I will gladly support them on that platform as well. However I noticed the existing non VR version on steam is a free to play title. I personally hope they stick with this existing pricing model if they port this to steamVR

edit: I want to clarify that I mean I do NOT want this to become a free to play game.

(+1)

Yes there will be Steam VR version. And we will provide free Steam key to each player who bought the game on itch.

????  Wow!  I could have seen this for the oculus quest home version but this is way beyond what I expected!  Thanks!

Wow! That's great to hear. :)

One last  thing.  Is the game updated through SideQuest or do we need to download and install again for the latest version?

(1 edit)

You need to download and install it manually.

Oh yeah, do you have a FB or Discord channel

Awesome game.  Hope there will be take offs and landings one day.  Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the update, my favourite game on the Oculus.

Please offer alternative way to grab a bomb as its almost impossible to reach in my chair haha!

(+1)

I also wanted to mention that you do not need a pc at all. Not even sidequest. You can get bugjaeger app on google play( not sure about apple) but you can buy the game here and install though an Android device. Great game

that is good to know for android phone users

(+1)

This game is fantastic. You guys deserve to be on the Oculus store. 5 stars. This game is the best flight game for oculus by far!!!!!

Fun game, I wish there was sensitivity controls. The planes don’t roll or pitch nearly as quick as I’d like them too.

Love it. Very fun looks great. Feels real. Just bought the full version....

hi I’m new so do we buy it here do we download it from here too or from sidequest.  I’m using my phone ?  Thank you.  😀

you need a pc to download it then install it through sidequest app (also on pc).  Once it is on your quest, a pc is only required if you want to install updates/new version

hey. If you have an Android device you don't need a pc. You do need to set developer mode to on in your quest and then download an app called bugjaeger. Search on you tube a tutorial for using bugjaeger with an oculus quest

hello we have a I phone and windows 10 lab top with sidequest on the lab top.  So do we just download it from sidequest then like other games from SQ to quest 2?   I’m a noob sorry.  lol.  Thank you very much again. 😀

if you have a widows 10 lap top use sidequest....don't use your phone. You will need your laptop, a usbc to usbc cord that can support data. Some use oculus link. I was lucky enough to have an old usbc to usbc cord laying around from an old lap top we had , and you will need to set the quest into devoper mode. There are tons of tutorials online and on youtube with instructions and steps you will need to take to run sidequest from your laptop

hello can we just use the cord that came with the quest 2 ?   We have sidequest we’ve gotten a few things off there ?  Thank you again.  Really appreciate it. 👍😀

(+1)

Hello, devs !!

You have made a fantastic game !! Extremely polished and runs very smooth on Quest 2.

My only "little" complaint is about the sound effects. I mean, it's good, but it would be nice to have more ambient sounds, like wind, different squeaks in the plane, etc. And maybe rework the sound of machine gun fire, which I find a bit bland.

All this would make the game even more immersive and grandiose !

Voilà ! I wish you the best for future !

Best regards :)

Played and loved the demo, was most impressed with the realistic mode so I just bought the full version. But there's no realistic mode in the paid version. What's the reason for this? the demo version is better than the paid version...not good.

Realistic mode is of course present, but it's no longer in the Settings. Right now you are choosing the mode in the base on the middle board (arrows below the START button). We also added Ultra and Real War modes. I hope that you'll be pleased :)

OK found it...great work guys.

OK :)
We'd be grateful if you could change your score on SideQuest if it's not a problem. Thanks!

(2 edits)

I don't doubt that it's there, but there are no arrows below the start button when I select a mission. Am I looking in the wrong place? I'm playing on a quest 2. Freaking fantastic game btw!

(+2)

Did you update the game to 0.82? In 0.81 it was in the Settings. Now modes can be choosed before each mission.

Awesome! Thanks! I'll do that ASAP!

Loving the game.

This game is getting better every update. Since I bought it I play this game everyday.

Is there a chance to add some kind of roguelike mode when you risk of getting further into mission by gaining more experience or gold or decide to get back to airport to save what you have? Something like fire spots in Dark Souls? It would be brilliant. Maybe some other looting or upgrade elements to make it even more rewarding?

My new favorite game, just three minor bugs. Your wings go straight through buildings without blowing up or doing any damage. Most of the time this doesn't happen but sometimes I fly straight through enemy planes. Last, I was doing a bombing run and both my bombers were destroyed, I had to use my guns, I found out you can shoot through buildings at any target behind it. other than those super minor bugs that happen very rarely this is a great game and really cheap for what it is. I would love to see different planes, and a way to change sides, I don't really want to be a German. Graphics are great even on the OG quest.

(+2)

whats wrong with being German?

(+1)(-3)

they’re the central powers, the bad guys.

next update will bring allied :)

Fair comment on at least the collision with other planes in the air.  I’d love to see this as it brings a bit more caution to our flying

Hi I cant d/l the demo for war planes i get an task failed message ETIMEDOUT what can i do to fix it

We uploaded demo on itch.io. You'll find it in the Download demo section. Then upload it to your Quest by  following our manual: https://www.homenetgames.com/warplanes-ww1-fighters/article/warplanes-ww1-fighte...

Would like to know how to download war planes  to my oculus quest. Help before I buy

Thanks

Hi! Check out our manual: https://www.homenetgames.com/warplanes-ww1-fighters/article/warplanes-ww1-fighte...

What does the full paid non demo include. Demo is really tight.

Demo allows you play only two missions, you won't see all types of missions.

amazing game!!!! a multiplayer mode of this game would be great!!!great work guys!!!!

(+1)(-1)

got a chance to play version 0.8.1 so tried the new physics.  Very happy with the result which so far, seems to have made the game harder (which is good!).  IE I’m not sure if it’s because of new physics but I’ve crashed twice using them.  Love the ability to fly inverted and to do loops.  In saying that, because it makes it much harder, it’s cool that the default is the standard physics, good to give people the option to choose

Recommendation for physics:  What is included already is good enough as this is not a straight sim.  However If you still want to experiment with them, you could make it that people can’t abuse of it.  IE: too many barrel rolls and you can start blacking out the screen to simulate “passing out”, especially until you’ve progressed a bit via the stat upgrades (IE: one for the pilots stamina would maybe need to be added).  I think someone else also suggested if you keep trying to climb maybe start slowing down the plane a bit up to a stall so it forces people to level off a bit.  These can probably be included without having to do “real” physics but it does require more development which I realize the budget is likely limited to the next campaign, which is A-OK

As others have mentioned, def think you need to ensure your page indicates the missions are procedurally generated.  People are probably wondering if there is like 1 hour or 2 of playtime when there is so much more

I do hope if the title is successful that this leads to a future multiplayer 5X5 experience.  Could be very cool, if not for this release, maybe something for the sequel.

Impressions Video with Commentary // Quest 2:

(24) You little Fokker! - AMAZING Warplanes: WW1 Fighters on Quest 2 with SideQuest (PLUS FREE DEMO) - YouTube

My Initial Impressions:

This was an amazing find on the Quest 2 thanks to Sidequest.
It was so good I decided to support the developers and purchase the full game.

(+1)

Hi! Thanks for supporting us and creating the video. It means a lot to us.

Your welcome, thank you for making a GREAT VR game!

Warplanes is awesome, thanks for bringing it to VR.

Not sure this is a bug or by design, but when I'm controlling with right hand and pick a bomb with left hand, the lever controlled by right hand stops steering the aircraft - it only responds to command again if I drop the bomb or store it away...

anyway, keep it up

(+1)

I think it is by design to give you a view to bomb.  In case you didn’t notice, if you are leaning left but you rather lean right, while holding the bomb just hold it on the right side and the plane tips in that direction instead.

I figured it might be it.

Need to play more, dev said missions are procedurally generated - kind of like a rogue-lite dogfighting game. I like it, hope there's some variations in terrains as well - it's pretty gorgeous for a mobile VR game

(1 edit)

but during the ww1 they already mounted 30 mm? :-)

Amazing work ! I tried the demo after seeing it on video below and was blown away ! Bought the full game and just tried it and was impressed how generous the demo was as well :-)

Can I ask how long you've been working on this and how many people in your team ? And is this done with Unity or Unreal ?

On a controls note, out of curiosity, is there a way to fly using the analog sticks and still bomb ground targets ? Or do we have to use to virtual flight stick to be able to pick up the physical bombs ?

Looking forward to seeing the updates !

(2 edits) (+1)

Is this your first VR-project?

You have no discord-channel for this game?

And yes ... this game is awesome

(+1)

4 years ago we released Project Charon for Gear VR, our CTO is passionate about VR. If Warplanes will succeed we'd love to make more VR games  :)

(1 edit) (+1)

Just played this for an hour or 2 and absolutely love it, I haven't gotten to destroy a train yet, but I guess that's in the game ? (I seen a train, and the train might or might not have survived :D) I hope there is also some large battles where you aren't flying alone, but with bot friendly's ? (It looks like it but i'm not sure) A story based campaign would be nice, but I love the work you put in to this, arcade style is fine for me, so ill keep it at that.

The upgrades are okay, but I did not get the feeling it did much, plane upgrades also are a bit lacking in how they feel the plane changing (but perhaps that's on me); Might be fun to make the decal's payable so its also a ingame-money sink !

Also something you could add is a flight training of sorts (fly through the hoops, ...) not that an Ace pilot such as myself needs it tho ! ;-)

If there is something I would want to add perhaps some field battle happening below (now the targets remain rather static, except for boats) ?  in WW1 trenches where used, but again, this game is really nice; good job team !

// edit

It's already possible to have a squad of helpers, although if I die, I can't switch to the backup; its over & out :(

As to people saying its too easy : not if you play a bit further :D

(1 edit)

Brilliant game!! I've been wanting something like this for ages. I purchased last night and I've installed on my quest 2 with no problems.  If you release an update do I just re download the file and re install it?

Hope you get this out on quest store as other than ultra wings there is nothing out there like this and I reckon it would do well.

All the best 👍

Thanks! Yes, just re-download APK and install using SideQuest. Run the game, select Settings where version number is displayed. It should match this listed  on product page in "Development log" section.

My preview

Thank You for such a quick implementation of the realistic physics.

If I could only suggest to make the speed of plane lose faster when climbing up and making the stall ( when the speed of the plane reaches low levels, then the plane nose dives down) easier to achieve. It would be great to have more limitations in climbing up and fighting for the altitude to not stall. Other than that the changes are great.

I was amazed that You don't advertise the game as having procedural generated missions as it gives bug replayability factor that people often are looking for. Also I noticed that enemy planes fly over balloons and enemy ships sail over land, but should be easy to fix. Please allow snap rotation with joystick when walking over base. It seems that there are no pilots inside enemy planes.

I am rating this game 9/10 and would recommend it to any Quest 2 owner. Can't believe how good the graphics on mobile VR can be.

Lol you notice lots of details.  Even though I got close to the planes I never noticed lack of pilots...

the realistic flight physics shouldn't be priority though. Not even sure Quest can handle them, at least without looking like Ultrawings...

good guys you are doing a good job. work a little more on realism and a great game will come out

Is this a full game? i purchaced it for$19  on itch.io and the demo is the only thing that shows when installing the file, with one plane and 3 missions. I thought I would be able to fly more planes and more missions. I need help

it is $10 on itch.io.   Are you sure you have bought the quest version of the game?

(+1)

Yes it was $10, I paid an extra 10 because the game is so good. I think I had the full version and didn't know it. I played and won a few rounds and was able to buy more planes and go on more missions. But I ran an update, and it is back to the demo version. I will have to see if I can get it back. The book at the beginning scene said "Demo" right now.

the Sidequest version is just the demo so running update will install the latest version on Sidequest, I guess.  if you already purchased it here, just download again, and on Sidequest install from apk.

(+1)

Did you try the demo on SideQuest first?  Looks like you didn't install full version. After purchasing game on itch.io follow the manual (APK installation is on the bottom) https://www.homenetgames.com/warplanes-ww1-fighters/article/warplanes-ww1-fighte...

(1 edit)

I think I had the full version and didn't know it. After I played it, and won some rounds, I could buy more planes and go on more missions, but I saw there was an update for the game, and updated it. Now I'm back to the demo versionDo I uninstall the demo first. After I tell it to install on Sidequest, it installs for about a minute and stops and said it was installed properly, and I go back into the game,, and still shows Demo on the book in the beginning scene. I will keep trying. I'm sure I will be able to get it back. Thanks for your help

Yes, I uninstalled the updated Demo and the full version came back when I reinstalled. Thanks for your fast reply. Love the game. I gave it a shining review on the Sidequest site. Keep up the good work

Very pleased with the game so far.   Surprised we are playing as the Germans to start off (not the usual!) but that's ok.  Really having fun.  Looking at the roadmap just now, I'm disappointed the Sopwith Camel  seemingly won't be making an appearance with version 0.9, considering its fame  but can't deny what is offered is very cool.

Can you list exactly how many missions there are per campaign?

FYI there are spelling errors I noticed in the game.  I'll make note of it/them next time I'm in (likely tomorrow since this is fun!)

Well done!

(+1)

Hi, thanks for your kind words. We'll fix spelling errors next week, before we prepare the game for localization. Sorry for that.
Missions are procedurally generated and their difficulty level increases.  Campaigns are infinite :)

Campaigns are infinite?  Although I like a story line type campaign with a beginning and end, this is good news in the sense of replay-ability.  Thanks for the reply, you guys have done great work, brings me back to Wings/Red Baron and Knights of the Sky days (I’m old lol).

Is your goal to eventually be on the Oculus Quest storefront?

We'd love to be on Oculus storefront, but final decision is up to them :(

(+1)

with the quality game you have put together, I don’t doubt you will succeed

Excuse me, but will there be a chance to add a realism mode with a stall, a barrel and roll ability for the plane? Other than that the game is superb with PC graphics quality.

(+1)

We are working on realistic mode as we speak :-)

(+1)

Then I am more than happy. Can't wait. Is there also possibility to add airports landings and takeoff?

(+1)

Due to base and mission loading structure I don't think that's doable. Right now we are focused on a new mode and new content.

Is there a online component? I see there is a gifting feature in the game?

(+2)

Hi, at this point it’s a singleplayer game. Now we are focused on the Triple Entente campaign and new planes. Gifting is a small social feature - for example, if you progressed in the game and you want to help out your friend who just started – you can boost him with some planes or cash.

Oh so there is game connected to a server to gift things?

Yes :)

This only for Quest 2 right?

it is for quest 1 as well
