What’s next? Multiplayer, new planes and more...

After release of version 1.0 we aren’t slowing down. We are working hard to deliver the biggest update yet – multiplayer is just one of its elements. We intend to publish 1.1 open beta next week, and a full 2.0 release is scheduled for February.

Steam version is coming!

We are wrapping up the PC version of Warplanes: WW1 Fighters. It will be available on Steam. You can wishlist the game now – it will help us a lot to get visibility and traction on Valve’s platform, so we’d be grateful if you could wishlist the game on your Steam account.

Oculus App Lab and Oculus Store for Rift

Warplanes: WW1 Fighters has been submitted to both Oculus App Lab and Oculus Store for Rift. We are just patiently waiting for feedback and approval.

We’d like to provide free Oculus App Lab keys for those who purchased the game at itch.io, but we can’t confirm it at the moment – we are 100% dependent on Oculus. We’ll update you when we know something.

Multiplayer

Warplanes: WW1 Fighters will utilize cross-platform multiplayer. No matter if you have itch.io, App Lab or Steam version – you'll be able to participate in multiplayer sessions with all gamers. We’ll be launching the multiplayer with 3 PvP modes (Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Last Man Standing) and two Co-op modes (Strikes and Rides).

We’d like to invite you on a stress test, 1.1 beta should be available next week.

Two heavy bombers incoming!

We’ll introduce two planes - one for each campaign: Airco DH.10 and AGO C.I. Heavy bombers will introduce new game mechanics – switching between pilot and gunners’ nest. Of course those two planes will be available in multiplayer and they can be operated by 2 or 3 players simultaneously.

Tons of changes and improvements

We are constantly reading your reviews and comments and trying to improve the game based on your input. Let’s list some of the changes and tweaks that will be introduced in 1.1.

  • Dynamic comfort mode – we are working on reducing motion sickness experienced by some players. Dynamic comfort mode reduces FOV during rapid plane movements and turns. This will allow you to fully experience wide field most of the time, without discomfort in more dynamic moments.
  • Improved flight physics – some parts of the code was rewritten to improve realism with baring in mind the most important factor: satisfying gameplay.
  • Improved balance in Realistic, Simulation and Real war modes.
  • Improved planes’ stats.
  • Custom mode improvements (bomb crosshair can be turned on/off separately from the machine gun’s crosshair, marker showing flight direction added – especially useful in Simulation mode).

We are also working on sound improvements, we are recording additional voice-overs and crushing reported bugs.

Thanks for your support and don’t forget to wishlist us on Steam!

Other... how can buy one as a gift for quest? I don’t see this option with App lab games🤔

umm🤔, can you do a bundle with oculus app lab+steam key? I see oculus have 272MB and steam 600MB. Are the textures or something more the differences?

Any way, I am sure nice to have installed on quest, but if I am at home be able play steam with more graphics too.🤞 Nice work.

A bid budget AAA looking game and for a fraction of the cost.

Is it possible to have multiple users with each having their own progress in the game?  My brother in law will be coming to stay after lockdown ends and he is already itching to play this game after I sent him some screen shots of “my squadron”!!!

not a dev so don’t know and unaware how difficult this is to implement but wanted to add that this is a great idea

On the new Oculus update (25), you can create a separate account for your brother. On this account, he will have a separate save game.

oh I had forgotten about this!! Thanks for the heads up I’ll check out the details. 👍👍👍

It's great you continue on, I wonder if you will tweak the missions so that they form a bit of a "real" campaign with a story of sorts ? Now they are just random generated events, but after a while you kinda get "looked" out on them.

added to wishlist :)

This has become by far my favourite game in on my Quest2.  Whilst giving a sense of realism it never forgets that games should be fun.   Thanks to the developers for all their hard work on making improvements and I shall certainly be adding this to the Steam wish list!  Just as a side note how do I keep my in game progress when I update?

Do not remove the current version. If you install on top of the previous version, it keeps your existing progress.

Thanks for this!! Has saved me hours of gameplay getting my squadron back up to scratch!!

Is this update live if so how do I download it?

I don't believe it is live yet, coming either this week or next week at worse.

I added to Steam wishlist. This is a great game and one of my VR favorites.

Added to wishlist.

wow what a list of improvements and new additions AND cross play multiplayer!   all this basically within about a month from original release.  Thanks

I will be supporting you guys on Steam and Rift store, can’t wait to see how the game looks. If we are running a powerful pc does the game look better ? (Not that it has too !)

In the first PC version terrain  geometry will be more smooth and detailed (already done).

We will later add better ground textures too.

that sounds phenomenal. If I understand correctly from previous cross-platform games like Population: One, I realize you may not be able to stray too far into high detail on the pc side but I think every little bit of extra detail is appreciated. Thanks for the effort. I can’t wait for The pcvr versions and the multiplayer on all headsets.  I’m especially excited with what you guys are doing with multiple players on a single plane.

It makes me think a b17 type of gameplay in a future VR version of your WW2 warplanes game is gonna be something else
